It turns out it was a wise idea for me to get a little time away on my own birthday because the twins’ birthday managed to become a “Happy 6th!” extravaganza that encompassed the whole following week!

Birthday Dinner at Pachanga Cocina Mexicana

We redeemed their free birthday meals at Pachanga the Sunday before their birthday.  Sorry for the grainy pictures; I only had my cell phone camera.

Yes, the icecream dessert is about the size of José’s head:

Happy Birthday to Me!

Because it’s my birthday (and mostly because I’m going to be at Delta Faucet headquarters  representing One Project Closer all day and night), gonna take the day off here.  But if you read last Tuesday’s Tiny Talk, you can do the math and figure out my ancientness.  :)

Happy Wednesday readers!

So lest I seem too predictable in my blog post trends, I’ve taken a turn for the bizarre.  Flew out this morning to Indianapolis for a blogger event with Delta Faucet Company/Brizo Faucet to tour their headquarters, learn about the brands… and…

’cause you think I’m craay…

… stay alone (yes, all by myself – no kids!) in a fancy Marriott Renaissance Hotel…

Did I mention “no kids?”

Fred and I packed up the boys and some quickie Dollar Store purchases and headed over to Amy’s and Chris’ after dinner tonight to celebrate a time-honored tradition in our friend group:  pranking the heck out of the newlyweds’ house.

This tradition started almost seven years ago when Fred and I got married.  It wasn’t our house that got it.  It was Fred’s car.  Aside from the usual painted messages and cans tied to the back…

I type through bleary eyes.  Yesterday’s wedding was beautiful, but whew am I exhausted.  Can only imagine how the starring couple  is feeling.   Though they have a Carribean cruise to make up for it.  Yeah, no real sympathy here.

But as tiring as the day was, it was a fantastic one.  Spent most of it in close quarters with Amy, our youngest sister Lori and our friend Jocie – assembling centerpieces and bouteniers, getting Amy all ready for the ceremony, and then celebrating a marriage I, personally, have been hoping for since around the time of my own.  Yeah, a pretty great day.

My little sister is getting married tomorrow (more on that later, I’m sure); and the biggest impression of that the twins have had so far is that it means they’ve had to shed the mohawks they’ve been sporting for the past few weeks.

Jose and Heriberto with Mohawks

A real sacrifice in their minds.

On the other hand, they’ve been totally diggin’ the attention they’ve gotten while getting measured for tuxes and then picking them up.  Read the rest of this entry

Pool Groove

Since we’ve hit a lull in our home projects (I think of it as the eye of the “just wait till the kitchen cabinets come and we have THAT to do” storm), I’ve been trying to get to the pool every afternoon.  Want to 1)  justify the membership dues, and 2) keep the boys progressing in the water.

Our first summer with them, they were terrified of getting IN (they “came with” an enormous water phobia when we adopted them), so we spent a lot of time on the stairs at first.

Baby Alisson

I wrote a month ago about my first Hispanic baby shower. (And then went virtually blog-silent … home renovations have consumed almost all my time – sorry!)

Well last night after our service, the Hispanic church headed over to visit Manuel, Ana, big sister Nicole, Tío (Uncle) Noe and the new baby, Alisson.  What a cutie!

Her middle name is Sohat (pronounced “soe-ahht,” the “h” is silent) which means “joy” or “blessing.”  Which, of course, the whole experience of getting to be friends with her family has been for me and mine!

“Things Mama Likes”

Just ahead of Mother’s Day, Fred took the boys out to dinner to decide on a gift for me (YES! MAJOR POINTS FOR HIM!). As they ate, he asked them to think of things I like, and he wrote them down as they rattled them off. He said he started to filter what they were saying but then thought better of it and just wrote it all, so I could see the list and enjoy it later.

He was right. I got as much enjoyment out of the list as I did out of the actual gifts (a cappucino maker and some coffee – Guatemalan, of course!):

Gonna have to go with “Windex” as my personal favorite.  What?!

Budding Entomologists?

While “helping” me with garden-edging, “we” got a little distracted by all the cool creatures we dug up.  [Note to Mamacita:  next science unit = "How Most Effectively to Use Magnifying Glasses."  On second thought, nah... this is cuter.]
