A Little Affirmation Moment
Posted by KimApr 20
Being home with the boys all day, every day, I sometimes can’t see the big picture of what it is I’m doing for all the dishes, laundry, handwriting pages, cleanup, and playtime. But tonight as I was changing to go for my Post-Chico-Bedtime Run, I overheard the twins in their room and had to grab Fred AND my camera.
For what I had heard was Jose reading ‘Berto Goldilocks and the Three Bears… the actual story from the book – really reading! And when he got stuck on a word, ‘Berto would hop out of his bed, help him with it, then run back and jump into bed again and listen for more.
And there it was:
1. Jose reading for fun for the first time of which I’m aware.
2. ‘Berto letting Jose take the lead for a (very rare) change.
3. Cooperation and brotherly love (that had not exactly been the tone all evening).
4. And plus they’re just so darned cute modeling what we do for them!
And that, dear handful of readers, is why I’m at home, homeschooling, spending all this time with the little men. We drive each other bonkers sometimes, but every once in a while I get a glimpse of what it is I’m hoping to foster. An education, yes, but more importantly deep friendship between the boys and strong characters they’ll take into adulthood.
Even got a “Good Job, Mama” from Fred!
Ahh, I’ll now return to my evening of basking in the glow of a tiny success.

Aw! Too Cute. So I take it there was no motherly “you’ll strain your eyes, and go blind reading with that flashlight,” talk.

Well, honestly, Jose’s right eye could STAND to be strained a little anyway. And no, as a former late-night-flashlight-under-the-covers reader, I have no such rule at our house.

Oh no. I just put a smiley. Well, now Tio Chris won’t have to post any comments here!

Hmmmmm…. I see my smiley-powers are growing! Excellent… Before you know it, we’ll all have EOHS (Excessive Online Happiness Syndrome). Muhahaha!
Ok, and seriously – how can those two NOT make you smiley? You and Fred are da bomb-parent-diggity – it inspires the rest of us, I promise.
[I won't do it...I swear... I won't ... :- ... nope, not going to do it. I'm going to to take a one month online smiley hiatus!]

That’s very sweet! One of my favorite memories of my grandma’s house is of reading to my sister
I hope it stays a tradition with them!
